Cut River Rock can be installed over sheet rock, wood, concrete, brick, etc.  any supported wall can accept our natural stone veneer.  That is the wall in question is standard construction and its base is being  on regular floor joist of regulations size and basement supports are within architectural design code.

Over sheet rock or drywall a metal mesh called metal lathe is used which is attached securely to the frame studs, then a scratch coat (1/4" mortar) is put on, then more mortar is applied to the stone veneer and is stuck on and jointed in when the mortar is set satisfactorily.

On wood the procedure is similar to sheet rock, if on exterior a waterproof barrier is place on first, it can be tarpaper, house wrap or where extreme water conditions can occur a new product called blue skin is an excellent choice.

When it comes to cement, there are a number of products like thin set etc., which is a glue type of substance you add to the mortar and paint on the cement wall which adds to the adherent of the stone veneer to the cement.

In many cases metal lathe is secured to the cement wall by drilling it and pounding in  anchor nail or pinbolts, this is necessary when there is a suspicion that a release agent was used on the cement to release the forms that held the cement until cured.

On cement board and brick the glue additive to the mortar is usually just fine, the metal lather in most cases is over kill.

"Thought you would like to see what we did with the rock. This started with a flat sheet rock wall. Whole room and ceiling was sheet rock. With the rest of the corners and the rock I have left over from this I plan to put in a small outdoor grill area. I still plan to order more next spring when we start a similar project in the guest house" . Jim Wimmler,  Michigan
